Xbox 360 – Don’t Let The 3 Red Light Error Happen To Your Machine

July 9th, 2010 · No Comments

Approximately one third of Xbox consoles sold will have problems of some kind. The typical reason for these issues are that the Xbox runs too hot. When this happens, you will see the three red light error which is called the red ring of death.

The E-74 error is another very common problem. It’s basically the same thing as the three red light error since overheating also triggers it.

So how can you lessen your likelihood of getting the blinking three red lights? This article will cover 3 different facets of this.

1.) How to use the Xbox 360.

The console tends to overheat because the GPU and CPU chips get extremely hot. The consoles cooling system inside the Xbox can not effectively dissipate the generated heat. In addition to this, the cramped internal space within the Xbox makes cooling more challenging.

Therefore, playing graphics intensive games nonstop for many hours can lead to overheating. So turn off your Xbox after playing for a couple of hours to allow it to cool down.

2.) Where to use the Xbox 360.

In order for the console to stay cool, you need to use it in a cool environment. In hot climates, always have the air conditioner on. Look out for nearby heat sources such as radiators, stoves, and direct sunlight.

Be sure that your gaming is done in a location with adequate ventilation. Something else to consider is the issue of too much dust. Dust can build up on the consoles mother board.

Dust is essentially an insulator that will trap heat inside of your Xbox. It will also hinder the required flow of cooling air inside your machine.

3.) Upkeep.

The console should be kept dust free. Dust has a way of getting into the consoles mother board. A small vacuum should be used for keeping the vents free of any dust accumulation.

Game discs will also bring dust into the Xbox. So keep them clean by storing the discs in their cases.

At times, overheating can happen no matter what you do. But it’s only sensible to do whatever you can to keep your Xbox working properly.
